Jessica M. Somera
Jessica was born in Plantation, Florida into a family of 5. Growing up in South Florida, she attended St Gregory Catholic Church with her family. She attended local schools including Broadview Elementary School, Margate Middle School, Silver Lakes Middle School, and Coconut Creek High School. Growing up, her interests included various sports including softball, tennis, and cheerleading. She participated in city leagues and was part of her schools teams as well. She enjoyed poetry and reading all through her childhood and when she was in her teens, began to write. She even had a book of poetry published. While she was a senior in high school, she met her partner, Michael Somera, and they have been together ever since.
After high school, Jessica worked full time as an insurance adjuster for a local family owned insurance agency. She started in the mail room and worked her way up to being a fully licensed underwriter. She did all this while attending Broward Community College in the evening working toward an associates degree.
Michael was accepted into law school at this time and they were married. Jessica was able to transfer her college credits to Indiana University – Bloomington and finish her Bachelors Degree with a major in English. She worked as a legal secretary for a local law firm and developed an interest in the law. After graduating from Indiana University, she was accepted at the University of Miami School of Law where she completed her first year of law studies. Michael and Jessica were unsure of where they would settle, so they took advantage of an opportunity to live in another part of the country that they love and relocated to Annapolis, Maryland where Jessica finished her law studies at the University of Baltimore.
During Jessica's last year of law school, Michael got a job offer from a Miami firm that specialized in traffic and criminal defense. Michael and Jessica had already decided that they would be returning home to South Florida so Michael took the job offer. At this time, Somera & Associates, PA was born. Michael worked diligently to get the practice up and running while Jessica finished her final year of law school. Jessica was the Chief Editing Officer of the Environmental Law Journal and interned at a local Annapolis law firm where she was exposed to litigation that included catastrophic personal injury cases, family law litigation, and most importantly, criminal defense. Jessica commuted back and forth on a weekly basis to help Michael with the firm. After law school graduation, Jessica returned to South Florida to take the Bar Exam and join her partner at the firm.
Jessica was admitted to the Florida Bar in 1999 and has been practicing exclusively in the areas of traffic and criminal defense since that time. She has conducted jury trials, bench trials, motion hearings, and takes pride in being a compassionate counselor to her clients. Jessica has traveled across the State to represent clients for varying criminal cases and takes pride in the firm that she and Michael have built together.
Jessica enjoys cooking, playing tennis, reading and volunteering. She is an active member of her Church and she is devoted to her family and her clients.

Somera is a member of the Florida Bar and South Florida native who received her Juris Doctorate from the University of Baltimore and her B.A. in English from Indiana University at Bloomington.
